It’s not about What drives learning, it’s about Who drives It
Jan 19, 2025Imagine this: you're on a trip with someone, but instead of asking where they want to go, you hand them a pre-planned itinerary. Sure, it might get you somewhere, but will it mean anything to them?
That’s the problem with traditional education. For too long, it’s been about what we teach, not who is learning. When they remember it for the test, we’re happy. But I want them to remember it for life!
In the video, I share how hard it was to break free from this institutionalized mindset. The shift wasn’t just about changing what we taught—it was about reimagining who drives the learning.
💡 Here’s what I learned:
When learners define their own goals, magic happens. They take ownership, engage deeply, and grow in ways you couldn’t script. It’s not about forcing them to learn—it’s about creating an environment where they want to learn.
This shift wasn’t easy for me. It took time, trial, and error. But now I see its impact every day—not just on learners, but also on educators, consultants, and school leaders who’ve embraced this approach.
Next week, I’m launching a coaching program for school leaders, consultants, and educators. I’ll teach them to think and manage the way I do—to lead learning environments where curiosity and autonomy take center stage.
If you’re curious about how to create these transformations in your own practice, stay tuned. This program is about more than strategies; it’s about rethinking what education can be.
