Practise what you preach, but don't preach! A 2024 Highlight!
Dec 31, 2024As we enter the last week of the year, I’ve been reflecting on moments that stood out in 2024. One highlight comes from April, when I received feedback that made me stop and feel proud of my approach.
An educator at Green School South Africa said to me:
“You practice what you preach—but you don’t preach.”
It was one of the most valuable compliments I’ve ever received—and I believe it makes me stand out as an educational consultant.
This feedback once again confirmed how crucial it is to give people an experience.
In my early days as an educator, at my first school where I worked between 2000 and 2015, I would explain a new approach step by step, guiding others with small, careful steps. But to them, it often felt like convincing or forcing change.
Now, my focus is on creating moments where people live the change.
✨ They feel the impact firsthand.
✨ They internalize what’s possible—not just for their learners but for themselves.
✨ They leave with ownership, ready to adapt and apply it in ways that work for them.
This shift has been transformative—not just for my work, but for the educators and teams I support. It’s about empowerment through experience, rather than just explanation.
As I close out 2024, I’m more focused than ever on creating spaces where others can feel what’s possible and take that with them into their own practices.
👉 What feedback have you received that made you proud and that you’re determined to keep holding onto? I’d love to hear!
