🚀 What If Learners Could Experiment First?
Dec 31, 2024Imagine this: A learner dives head first into a complex project. They’ve had no chance to explore the topic, play with the tools, or make a few mistakes. What happens? They hit a wall. They feel disconnected. They give up.
💡 At allLearners, we’ve seen this pattern time and time again. And we know there’s a better way: Let learners start with experimentation. Let them tinker, fail, and test the waters before diving into the deep end.
Where Does Real Learning Happen?
In the comfort zone, we focus on repetition—valuable for practising and remembering what we’ve already learned.
In the panic zone, we’re overwhelmed. Sure, you might learn not to touch a hot stove after getting burned, but this kind of learning only works in emergency situations.
But in the stretch zone, that’s where the magic happens. Experimentation, small failures, and trying again with curiosity and support—that’s what builds resilience, creativity, and true mastery.
Here’s the rub: jumping straight to outcomes kills discovery.
By skipping experimentation, we miss the joy and growth of the process. When learners tinker, test, and fail early, they step into their stretch zone with confidence. Experimentation isn’t a "nice to have." It’s the launchpad for ownership, creativity, and deep learning.
So here’s the question: What if we changed the way we start?
What if the first step wasn’t a final outcome, but a playground for curiosity and discovery?
My Challenge to You:
Stop pushing learners to take a leap of faith. Instead, let them dip their toes into the water. Experimentation isn’t wasted time—it’s the foundation of resilience.
